Attached is the earnings map for next week. It has 157 stocks that met the Group criteria.

For those that used last week’s map, hope you captured some of the big profits that were offered. Some of our trading Group members extracted profits from a good many big moves. For example, most of the (about) $6 move up by APKT and (about) $7 move down by LZ were captured as profits on 2/2/11. One person fairly new to these types of trades identified the pending APKT move up on 2/2/11 prior to market open based on pre market data, and then did a very decent job on its entry, trade management, and the exit.

Perhaps most forum members are more grounded in use of indicators, and desire the automated trading systems. These trades sometimes provide useful indicator information, but most often are traded best by using bar-by-bar analysis of price action, and related volume.

Of course, the trading domain is so large; that there are more opportunities/ways to make profits than can be easily enumerated. So we each pick those opportunities that appear most appealing to us.

Whatsoever, hope the attached map for next week generates some profits for its users, however it is used.

Regards,

Jim B.

Attached is the earnings map for next week. It has 132 stocks that met the Group criteria.

Something that may help use these types of trades more effectively is use of the Floating Chart feature. Years ago, I use to use mainly broker charts for displaying market charts, and my top 6-8 trade candidates. So use of floating charts is just a modification of a technique that has a proven, long term successful history. Since floating charts were provided in Nirvana tools, they have been used mostly for creating thumbnail (small) charts. Enough detail is seen to see the quick moves that often happen with these stocks, and allows early entries. I now usually have 20-30 floating charts constantly displayed, and love this feature. A couple of attachments are provided to help you can decide if you want to use these small charts in your trading (if not already doing so).

For traders new to this thread, suggested is to set up the charts to detect moves. And try using the rules provided in the Shadow Trader video discussed earlier in this thread.

Regards,

Jim B.

Attached is the earnings map for next week, containing 188 stocks that met Group criteria. So with only four trading days next week, the number of plays per day from these stocks should be high.

If you take trades from this list, posting your results for everyone to see would be appreciated.

If you have determined a good set of rules that are working well for you, please share them with all forum members.

Regards,

Jim B,

Mainly for historical purposes, some charts are shown from last week’s trading - see attachments. Please note as has been previously stated (in other posts), that the hot list is made up of stocks showing either nice pre market gaps, or big moves shortly after market open, and of course, there is a bias towards favoring the earnings stocks because they fairly often follow through with big moves.

Please note that the plays offered vary from real quick reversals to slow grinding moves (like SLW on Friday, February 18, 2011 – a $2+ move for a $37 stock, and yes, most of it was easy to captured as profit.

If you are using the earnings map, or focus on having a superior list of stocks (or other investment instruments) to trade, posting of some of your techniques and trade examples would likely be appreciated by most all forum members.

Regards,

Jim B.

Since it has been about a month since I last posted to this forum, I think this is an appropriate time for an update.

Presently, I have extended my data subscription -- and I am now working with the Earnings Map provided by Jim Barrett every trading day. I am very pleased with the results. Since my last post, I began paper-trading both stocks and the TF futures contract. I decided that, after 10 consecutive profitable days of paper-trading, I would move to trading in cash with small position sizes. (Although I have been an intermittent EOD trader for over a decade, using both OT and VT, I have only recently decided to make a serious endeavor of day-trading.)

Now, after two weeks of trading with cash, I can report 9 of 10 profitable days. And, I have found that -- for myself -- trading both the emini and stocks together works well. If one category is not profitable, generally the other is.

It strikes me that the Earnings Map approach articulated on this forum is probably the best application of Nirvana software of which I am aware. And, I am particularly grateful to Jim Barrett for his persistence and care in communicating this methodology on this forum. It has already made a big difference in my own trading, although I know that I still have a lot to learn. And, I imagine that people who take the time and trouble to study these forum posts carefully will discover that, initially, I had a good deal of resistance to this approach.

I suspect that, if more VT users decide to work with this Earnings Map (or if Nirvana Systems decides to make this approach a priority item), a variety of improvements and refinements will be possible.

Jeff

Jeff,

Wow - many thanks for the strong endorsement of the method (and humbled me). And it is satisfying to see someone actually using the information to make money.

My earlier solicitation for others to post was with the expectation that some marked up charts might be provided.

The ease of using this method might be dependent on the individual. I can only hope that other traders are given a nudge (by having a method and a list of stocks provided) to try these trades because like may have been previously posted, I am very surprised that day trading is for me. But also am just so glad it was given a try because they are now my favorite type of trades. The early morning trades are particularly appreciated because they can provide more than enough profits for the entire day, and that leaves plenty of free time for hobbies, recreational activities, and etc. Perhaps not previously shared is that these trades are extremely safe. During the trade, you have control over the outcome more than with longer timeframes. This leads to pointing out that the likelihood of big losses because of geo-political events are minimized because of the limited time that one's trading funds are actually in the market (thus exposed). After a trader get proficient at these trades, there is very little/low draw-down.

Nirvana has been outstanding at incorporating features requested that facilitate these trades. They also have had staff members visit our trading Group (via Skype) during live trading, discussed features requested, and the feature implementation has been very timely. It is hoped that the enhanced day trading capabilities helps gain them market share in the trading tools business - it definitely should.

Congratulations on your success thus far and good luck at continuing to improve in proficiency for these types of trades.

Again, thank you for the very positive feedback.

Regards,

Jim B.

The attached earnings map for next week contains 76 stocks that met Group criteria.

I usually only visit the forum once per week, but if there are specific questions, answers will be provided within about a week. Additionally, other forum members might have better, and more timely answers.

Hope the attached map/profile proves useful to at least some forum members.

Only 13 earnings stocks met Group criteria, while 60 met the SUB criteria.

They are in separate maps because the overall map, premarket gap stocks, and Group criteria earnings stocks, have been providing more than enough excellent trades for each morning/day.

Historically the SUB earnings stocks have offered very decent trades. But it appears it is time to let them go. The separate map containing them is provided this week so that individuals can easily decide for themselves whether they want to trade SUB stocks. Next week SUB stocks will likely not be provided/posted. But their original source and selection criteria have been provided in the past for those that want to continue to trade them.

As most traders already know, last week was a great week to be a day trader, especially one that knowing traded the market open.

Regards,

Jim B.

Only ten (10) earnings stocks met Group criteria for next week. The related VT map/profile is attached.

Just FYI – there were more than enough market open trades (first two hours after market open) to make every day this past week vary from excellent to great trading. Gap stocks and stocks exhibiting big moves shortly after the market open largely contributed to the superb trading situation.

It is hoped that others had the opportunity to participate in (profit from) the morning trades.

Good luck in these trades next week.

Jim B.

FYI - 197 earnings stocks met Group criteria. The earnings map is not as stratified as usual. Briefing.com closed off access to their earning info, and the alternate sources used did not seem to do a good job of identifying when during the day that the announcements would be made. So all stocks for a particular day are on only one plate – see attachment.

Good luck in these trades next week.

Jim B.

Jim,

i just realized all the work and effort you put into this thread - Thanks!

I haven't checked out this thread in quite sometime and I see how popular it got. I'm going to read thru the remaining pages but wanted to thank you for posting these maps. I do specifically trade currencies but on one of my computers, I have VT open to a RT stocks map during the day in case anything happens I can see it without bothering waiting to hear anything in the news. Comes in useful. Anyway, I'm going to try out these maps you posted for the fun of it to see what has happened..

Thanks again and good work!

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

FYI - For next week, 449 earnings stocks met Group criteria - see attached map/profile.

Briefing.com still has blocked public access to their earning info (that was used for a good many years). This week, an alternate source was used that appears to do a decent job of identifying when during the day that the announcements are to be made.

Good luck with trading these stocks.

Regards,

Jim B.

Thanks to Scrappy and Joe for posting that the earnings map schedule was impacted by weather, and providing a quick cut at earnings stocks for today.

To amplify a little on the weather impacting the availability of the earnings map, I live in north Alabama which was hit with a record number of strong tornados last Wednesday. Limited telephone connectivity became available yesterday (Sunday), and power came on later in the day. So we were cut off from the worlds for about four days, except for hearing news on a portable radio.

My near-term trading activity schedule is still TBD (To Be Determined). But most likely a complete earnings map will not be provided until this coming weekend. And that is less than certain because most local folks are still without power. The electrical power infrastructure took a significant hit that will take time to fully repair.

A “lite” version of this week’s earnings map is attached (containing 207 stocks). It offers a number of stocks that provide very profitable trades when their earnings news is released.

Good luck at capturing decent profits.

Regards,

Jim B.

Good luck with these types of trades.

Mainly for historical purposes, charts for some of the plays from this morning are posted. Charts are in the CDT zone - market is open from 8:30AM to 3:00PM. Some extended hours information is included in the charts. Volume is an easy way to help see the market regular hours open and close.

Essentially they were fairly easy plays with good follow through that yielded superior profits (by most trader's standards).

(Note that a beautiful play on ANF called by another Group member is not included.)

For those that traded the afternoon, some of these same stocks gave decent profits again. Charts are not included here for the afternoon trades.

Please post your trades, when possible.

Regards,

Jim B.

Please add the following earnings stocks to the earnings map based on updated information:

Monday - RAX and SLH - SLH is actually a SUB stock because of its daily average volume only being 398K+, but since it has recently been in the news, there may be more than usual attention paid to it.

Wednesday - AH & IL

I think this is my favorite thread of all time. lol.

these updates are uncanny! many thanks again James!

I follow these updates intently.. even tho I trade FX as I've said, sometimes as I've noticed some investors will flurry to FX if earnings reports are bad.. But who knows.. Either way I've learned alot from this thread..

I'm actually reading a new book ( an excellent one, mind you) called;
Currency Trading and Intermarket Analysis by Ashraf Laidi

Even tho the focus is on Currencies that's a small bit.. it really focuses on how world markets fluctuate and move in tandem with one another due to socio-political, geographic, economic conditions etc.. its a great read.. read half the book today alone.. And he talks about stocks and the relationship b/w financials of stocks and FX. So, maybe this is why I enjoy your thread so much too..
